The Watergate Hotel was originally built as a luxury apartment building within in the six-building Watergate complex famous for the 1972 burglary by men associated with President Nixon's re-election committee. This historical event put The Watergate on the map forever. Today the hotel, the Watergate, features very generously sized rooms that were part of a $13 million renovation completed in February 2000. The Watergate complex includes the hotel, three luxury apartment buildings with over 600 apartments, penthouses and townhouses as well as two office buildings. The complex's shopping mall includes a grocery store, drug store, hair salon and upscale shops such as Saks Jandel, Valentino and Yves Saint-Laurent.

The Watergate Hotel Location

The Watergate Hotel is located on the banks of the Potomac River in Washington, D.C. at the edge of historic Georgetown and west of the White House in an area known as Foggy Bottom. Many of the city's attractions are within walking distance of the hotel. The Kennedy Center for performing Arts is next door and Georgetown is just a five-minute walk. Guests can also take a twenty-minute stroll along the Potomac to the National Mall, the famous park that stretches about two-and-one-half miles from the Lincoln Memorial to the U.S. Capitol Building. In addition to the National Monuments, the attractions in this famous park include the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Smithsonian, the Air and Space Museum, the Museum of American History and the National History Museum. For guests not interested in walking very far, the Metro's Foggy Bottom stop is only three blocks away. The Metro rail system has over 75 stations traveling 100 miles around the metro area with stops very near almost every attraction. Reagan National Airport is 6 miles away.

The Watergate Hotel Accommodations

The Watergate Hotel has 250 rooms including 144 suites. The standard rooms are 450 to 560 square feet. All rooms feature a full marble bathrooms with plush terry cloth bathrobes, hairdryers, and a bathroom telephone, a work station with fax machines and two-line telephones with data port, mini bar, alarm clock with a CD player, safe deposit box, neck tie rack and iron/ironing board. Services include complimentary Mercedes Benz service to downtown, complimentary newspaper, twice-daily maid service and 24-hour room service.

Watergate Hotel Dining

The Aquarelle Restaurant serves American cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner and offers spectacular views of the Potomac River. The restaurant also offers a pre-Theater menu for those attending Kennedy Center events. The Potomac Lounge offers light fare and cocktails and serves afternoon tea daily from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
